When I wrote my review of the Lawn-Boy 10640 20-Inch 6.75-Gross-Torque Briggs & Stratton Gas-Powered Push Lawn Mower, I did not go into detail about the other models in the Lawn-Boy lineup. So I figured I’d put an easy-to-read chart (see below) for you here so you can get a quick overview of the differences among the various Lawn-Boy models: the 10640, 10641, and 10642.
Looking through the chart, you’ll find that the major differences are in the areas of: Starter, Self-Propel System, and Weight.
Lawn-Boy Lawn Mowers Starter System: While both the Lawn Boy 10640 and 10641 has recoil starters, the Lawn Boy 10642 has an electric starter.
Lawn-Boy Lawn Mowers Self-Propel System: The Lawn-Boy 10640 is a push lawn mower, while the 10641 and 10642 models features a variable speed self-propelled system. A self-propelled lawn mower makes it easier to navigate uneven or rough terrains.
Lawn-Boy Lawn Mowers Weight: With each added feature comes more weight. At 66 lbs., the Lawn-Boy 10640 is the lightest in the line-up. Adding the self-propelling function adds an additional 4 lbs. onto the Lawn-Boy 10641. Add the electric starter, and you have the Lawn-Boy 10642 weighing in at 79 lbs.
To sum it up, the difference between Lawn-Boy 10640 and Lawn-Boy 10641 lawn mowers is that the 10640 is a push mower while the 10641 is a variable speed self-propelled mower. The difference between the Lawn-Boy 10641 and the Lawn-Boy 10642 is the starter; the 10641 has a recoil starter while the 10642 has the electric starter.
Price Differences Between the Lawn-Boy 10640, 10641, and 10642: With each added feature, you’re looking at a $30 price increase. At this writing, the Lawn-Boy 10640 is selling for $239.00 on Amazon.com, while the Lawn-Boy 10641 and Lawn-Boy 10642 are selling for $269.00 and $299.00, respectively.
While it’s not on the chart below, it’s worth noting that Lawn-Boy also has a CARB Compliant model for environmentally-conscious buyers and buyers in California (see also: What are CARB Compliant Lawn Mowers?), the Lawn-Boy 10645. The Lawn-Boy 10645 20-Inch 6.75-Gross-Torque Briggs & Stratton Gas Powered Lawn Mower is basically the CARB compliant version of the Lawn-Boy 10640; it produces less harmful emissions that pollute the environment.
