Question: I’ve been getting conflicting answers on how high I should cut my grass. Some says that I should keep it short, but others say high. So, just how high should I cut my grass?

Answer: A good rule of thumb is to cut the grass to a height of about 2.5″ – 3″. I definitely wouldn’t give your lawn a buzz cut. The reason is that longer grass leaves allow for more surface area to absorb sunlight and promote photosynthesis. This in turn will encourage development of a deep root system. The better developed the root system, the healthier your lawn will be.
There are also other benefits to keeping your lawn at a higher cut. First, higher grass leaves serve as ground cover keeping the soil from drying out. As such you won’t have to water the lawn as frequently. A higher cut also prevents weed from growing by blocking the sun. And if you keep your lawn dense (by over-seeding), this will also keep the weeds at bay.
